Why an Angled, Rocking Fall Triggers More Jig Bites

Most jigs fall in a predictable path. The Rocker Jig is designed to fall at an angle while rocking from side to side, creating movement before the bait ever reaches the bottom. That different descent can trigger bass that ignore ordinary straight-falling jigs.

The fall is part of the retrieve

Many anglers focus on what a jig does after it reaches bottom, but a large percentage of jig strikes happen during the initial drop. An angled fall lets the Rocker Jig move deeper beneath docks, beside cover and across the face of structure while its rocking motion creates flash and displacement.

Dock fishing

Pitch or skip the Rocker Jig beyond the outside edge and let it travel into the shade. Use controlled slack so the bait can move naturally. Watch the line closely; a strike may appear as a small jump, sudden stop or sideways movement.

Fishing cover and offshore structure

  • Pitch beside laydowns, brush and isolated pieces of cover

  • Work the jig down ledges and channel breaks

  • Let it fall beside vertical structure before beginning the retrieve

  • Use short lifts to restart the rocking action after the bait reaches bottom

When the Rocker Jig has an advantage

The angled, side-to-side descent is valuable on pressured water because it shows bass a path and action they may not associate with a traditional jig. It can also help reach fish positioned slightly behind the visible edge of cover.

Stay ready from splashdown to bottom

Follow the bait with the rod tip without pulling it away from its natural path. Reel down immediately when the line jumps or stops early. The Rocker Jig is already hunting on the fall—your job is to be ready when a bass intercepts it.
